Movember

A gentleman is, after all, still a man no matter how gentle he is.

“The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember.  The Movember challenge is to grow a mustache starting November 1st after a clean shave for the entire month to raise awareness and money for cancers that affect men.”

The idea for Movember began in 2003 over a few beers in Melbourne, Australia.  In 2004 the campaign evolved and focused on raising awareness  for the number one cancer affecting men – prostate cancer.

The prostate is the male reproductive gland located below the bladder and in front of the urethra. As men age, the rate of prostate cancer increases, especially if there is a strong family history. African Americans have higher rates than the general population. Prostate cancer screening begins at age 50 with a digital rectal exam and a blood test to measure the prostate specific antigen or PSA. Symptoms of prostate cancer usually affect urination.

In 2009, global participation of Mo Bros and Mo Sistas climbed to 255,755, with over one million donors raising $42 Million US equivalent dollars for Movember’s global beneficiary partners.

So tickle someone’s fanny… I mean fancy and grow yourself a mo for Movember. For more information go to www.movember.com.

RE: your Best Mo of All Time:

“Best” is very arguable category…one person’s “best” will, a lot of times, not even make it onto another person’s list. Now the Hitler moustache, one could easily argue, is the moustache most identifiable with one specific person.

I got to interview Tom Selleck many years ago. I think I literally swooned when he walked into the room.

And it all started with that delicious mo of his!

Thank God Johnny Depp doesn’t have any votes. I’m surprised Charlie Chaplin is doing as well as he is.

Hahaha! That’s weird, me and my partner were only musing the other day on whether if Hitler hadn’t have been Hitler, would the Hitler ‘tache have caught on?..The general consensus was ‘no’ ‘cos Chaplin’s Tramp kinda scrubbed any possibility of street cred. One would have to be very brave or indeed a Hitler fan to sport that ‘tache these days (although one younger Royal dabbled, but that’s because they’re stupid, it’s tradition that minor royals are idiots)..Anyway, I have my Mo for Movember, well I have the raw materials anyway, just need to do a bit of Topiary…I’m suddenly aware that Hitler has featured quite strongly in this comment, I’m not a fan, Honest..Preferred Stalin, his ‘tache anyway..More of a fan of the thinner, closer cropped facial scruff, the goatee and what Man Parish seems to have going at the mo…Mr Flick never warned his doc could grace the cover of a Mills and Boon..I’ll have to have words..

Sparks!..just remembered, the guy from Sparks…think his was more Avant Guarde though, rather than a tribute..stop typing.. 🙂

What great idea. I love mo’s. Unfortunately I have such a babyface, couldn’t raise one with miracle grow.
